- PreviewFeature Editor's Introduction—Durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy has long been touted as the solution to the growing number of patients with advanced heart failure. Despite widespread adoption of LVAD therapy, the therapy has remained largely limited to patients with advanced heart failure requiring intravenous inotropes. Inroads to less ill populations of patients with heart failure, long the holy grail of LVAD therapy, has been slow to gain traction.1 Mitter and Pinney provide an insightful commentary on the state of durable LVAD therapy for treatment of heart failure in patients with less-advanced symptoms than traditionally referred for device therapy.
