The descending aorta was exposed and transacted distal to the subclavian artery. The anvil of the automatic staple gun was inserted into the stump, and a purse-string suture was placed closing the distal aortic aneurysm. The anvil was then joined to the stapler preset with a vessel prosthesis, and anastomosis was completed.
